UN-Habitat joins Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty

Nairobi, 25 November 2024UN-Habitat has joined the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, emphasizing the critical role of sustainable urban development in combating poverty and hunger globally.

Launched at the G20 Summit under Brazil’s Presidency, the Alliance aims to eradicate hunger and extreme poverty by 2030, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UN-Habitat’s engagement highlights its commitment to collaborative, large-scale efforts to tackle food insecurity, structural poverty, and urban challenges.

As part of the Alliance, UN-Habitat will provide technical assistance, build capacity, and foster knowledge-sharing among member countries. It will also focus on aligning its initiatives with the Alliance’s strategies and collaborating on innovative solutions to drive equitable development.

With expertise in urban planning, access to basic services, and resilient infrastructure, UN-Habitat will support efforts to empower vulnerable populations and promote inclusive growth, advancing the Alliance’s goals of reducing inequalities and fostering sustainable urbanization.

This partnership reinforces UN-Habitat’s dedication to creating a better urban future while addressing interconnected global challenges.
