High-level Political Forum 2024

From 8 to 17 July, UN-Habitat will participate in the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York, emphasizing the role of cities and local governments in achieving the SDGs.

By focusing on the localization of the SDGs and promoting local action, UN-Habitat brings the voices of urban communities and local authorities to the development dialogue.

High-level Political Forum (HLPF) 2024

With current progress falling far short of what is required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, this year’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development will be critical to turbocharging efforts to accelerate SDG implementation in the remaining six years.

The theme for this year’s HLPF is “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. The Forum will review in depth Goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere; Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture; Goal 13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts; Goal 16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels; and Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

About the High-level Political Forum

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the central platform for reviewing and following up on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Established in 2012, the HLPF provides a space for stakeholders to assess progress, identify challenges, share knowledge and best practices, and advance policies for achieving the SDGs. This annual forum brings together representatives from governments, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector to foster inclusive dialogue and action towards sustainable development.
