UN-Habitat is pleased to announce that the call for expressions of interest to host the forthcoming Expert Group Meetings and Regional Consultation Meetings for the development of International Guidelines on People-centred Smart Cities, scheduled between 2023 and early 2025, has been reopened. This presents a unique opportunity for Member States, local governments, academia, and other relevant entities to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of smart cities and innovative urbanization.
As part of its commitment to implement Resolution HSP/HA.2/Res1, which mandates UN-Habitat to develop international guidelines on people-centred smart cities through an inclusive consultative process, UN-Habitat is seeking proactive partners to join us on this journey. The guidelines, expected to be developed by 2025, aim to provide a non-binding framework, guiding the development of national and local smart city regulations, plans, and strategies, with a focus on ensuring digital urban infrastructure and data contribute positively to our urban future.
The Expert Group Meetings and Regional Consultation Meetings are critical components of UN-Habitat’s inclusive consultation process, bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders from across the globe. Participants to these meetings will include representatives from national, regional, and local governments, NGOs, academia, the private sector, and the United Nations system, ensuring a rich and varied exchange of perspectives.
UN-Habitat invites interested parties to submit their expression of interest by 8 November.
