Since Habitat III, much has taken place in the work of building smart, sustainable and equitable cities that are digitally inclusive and ICT technologies create positive enabling urban environments for all.
To that end, the United For Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) initiative was during the Habitat III process as a multi-UN agency platform comprising of 16 UN agencies working on the topic of Sustainable Smart Cities, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 11: "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable", the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agreement and other related international agreements.
The U4SSC is now launching a global call for expert voluntary contributors for the preparation of three reports on “The Impact of Frontier Technologies on Cities” namely:
- The Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Computing in Cities
- The Impact of Data Processing and Computation in Cities
- The Impact of Sensing Technologies and IoT in Cities
The meetings and work of the thematic group will be conducted through U4SSC’s online platform, and experts are expected to be available for all meetings and contributing to drafting chapters according to their expertise.
All three reports will be compiled and published through the U4SSC initiative.
