Addressing Urban and Human Settlement Issues in National Adaptation Plans 2019 We live in an urban world: more than 55 per cent of the world population lives in urban areas today and this number will grow to 68 per cent by 2050. Cities are particularly vulnerable to Climate Change as the concentrate large populations and a centres for the national economy and social-economic development. In order to build the climate resilience of the national population and economy, building resilient cities and human settlements is essential. National Adaptation Plans are the most important process to articulate the adaptation needs and priorities of countries, and therefore countries should comprehensively address urban and human settlement issues in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) at the formulation and implementation stage.

This tool helps in understanding the current while guiding the future planning of the city, whilst defining a clear strategy for sustainable development. This tool considers spatial planning in relation to legal aspects and Municipal and Local economy mechanisms.
The Government of Norway & UN-Habitat Partnership Profile in Sudan 2019 2019 Blue Nile State is one of the states affected by long conflict in Sudan. It suffers from all the classical symptoms related to people’s displacement and rapid urbanization, such as high rate of unemployment among youth, and high prevalence of insecurity. Since 2015, UN-Habitat has improved a decent living environment in Blue Nile State in partnership with the Government of Norway. So far, over 290,000 vulnerable population including IDPs, war-affected children and women groups were supported.

CPI PROFILE Arar 2019 Under the FSCP, UN-HABITAT, MOMRA, Municipality and its Local Urban Observatory has been working on developing urban statistic and spatial information (Geographic Information System) to provide relevant urban information that strongly supports decision-making process on urban development and urban planning in the city. Urban-LEDS II Newsletter #3 2019 Introducing phase II of the Urban-LEDS project. The full name of the project is: “Accelerating climate action through the promotion of Urban Low Emission Development Strategies”, or “Urban-LEDS II” for short. The project is funded by the European Union. Phase I ran from 2012 – 2015 involving Brazil, Indonesia, India and South Africa. This second phase runs from 2017 – 2021 and includes four new countries: Colombia, Brazil, Lao PDR and Rwanda.
