This issue of Urban Impact is dedicated to the outstanding success of the 10th Session of the World Urban Forum held in Abu Dhabi in February. Prominence is also given to UN-Habitat’s immediate efforts to support precautionary and remedial efforts by local governments to help prepare the most vulnerable communities face the challenges of the COVID -19 global pandemic. An emergency fund of USD 1.3 million has been allocated to support 13 high impact projects across all continents through our regional offices. We will need to raise an initial funding of USD 100 million to channel support to these crucial stakeholders.
Also featured in this issue are the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG11 and other urban-related SDGs; the need to address inequality in cities; the lack of investments in public infrastructure; much-needed reforms in local governance; the right to shelter and housing, and the importance of job security.
