Summary of event

This dialogue aims at bringing together Ministers, Mayors, Governors and other governmental representatives to contribute to the assessment of SDG 11 during the 2018 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) under the theme "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies”. Year 2018 is particularly important as it will see the in-depth review of SDG 11 “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. This is the first time that member states of the United Nations will debate the progress and challenges of implementing Goal 11.

The Dialogue wants to bring a contribution from both national and territorial governmental levels; and to support the preparations to HLPF by collecting experiences, comparing methodologies, sharing the challenges of implementation and monitoring of SDG11. The report of the meeting focusing on the multi level governance aspects of SDG11 will be presented at the Local and Regional Governments' Forum (16th July, NYC).  Among the themes that will be addressed: the right to the city, opportunities for all, multilevel governance and resilient cities.

This high level Dialgoues is takin place within the framework of the UCLG Executive Bureau. It is organized by UN-Habitat and UCLG, facilitator of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments and it is supported by UNACLA, the United Nations Advisory Committee of Local Authorities.
