Access to adequate, affordable housing is fundamental to the health and well-being of people and the smooth functioning of economies. Yet, around the world, in developing and advanced economies alike, communities struggle with the challenges of housing the poor and providing housing at reasonable cost for low- and middle-income populations. In a forthcoming report, A blueprint for addressing the global affordable housing challenge, the McKinsey Global Institute, the business and economics research arm of McKinsey & Company, examines this growing global issue, trends to expect in the coming decade, and promising possible solutions.  The report will be launched at an event co-hosted with UN-Habitat in Nairobi, the United Nations programme to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate housing for all.
