Overview
Despite being mandatory under the County Governments Act for county governments in Kenya to develop county spatial plans, only one out of 47 counties has successfully formulated and approved comprehensive county spatial plan as a basic guideline for land use management. Weak technical knowledge, skills, and lack of effective tools and technologies hinder effective formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of spatial plans. County spatial planning training courses are designed to equip technical staff and policymakers with the requisite knowledge, competence, and skills to discharge planning and land use function as required by the constitution and county government act.
