This document provides an overview of the key legislations and decrees that govern ur-ban development in Egypt. The Constitution of the Arab Republic of Egypt is the fundamental law of Egypt. The current Constitution was issued in 2012 and was amended in January 2014 where it passed in a referendum. According to the current legal frame-work, the House of Representatives has the competency of drafting and passing laws where the responsibility then falls on the President to approve those laws; bearing in mind that all laws must adhere to constitutional provisions. Laws in Egypt are subject to review by the Supreme Constitutional Court to ensure the adherence to the Constitution.
