Smart City Seminar - Habitat III Secretariat Mr. Wataru Kawasaki

"Habitat III: Towards a New Urban Agenda"  14:10 - 14:45, 21st May 2015

There is need for international consensus on what "smart city" means, and deeper understanding of how approaches labeled as "smart" advance the New Urban Agenda.

The assumption that the application of ICTs in planning, design and management of urbanization and cities will result in improved outcomes needs to be addressed.

The main objective of the session is to raise awareness of the aims of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) to be held in 2016, and the core principles guiding the New Urban Agenda. "Smart cities" is one of the important themes for the Habitat III Issue Papers that are summary documents addressing research needs and highlighting general findings related to the housing and sustainable urban development.
