In accordance with General Assembly resolution 67/216 of December 2012, the Assembly decided that the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development will result in a concise, focused, forward-looking and action-oriented outcome document, which shall reinvigorate the global commitment to and support for housing and sustainable urban development and the implementation of a "New Urban Agenda".

In support of that result and as part of the conclusions of the first session of the Preparatory Committee for Habitat III, the Secretariat has prepared guiding questions for consideration on the debate of the second session of the Preparatory Committee and the Habitat III briefing session.
