  • Kindly note that your participation will be subject to your prior accreditation to the Governing Council as per the provisions of Rules 65 and 66 of the Rules of Procedure of the Governing Council of UN-Habitat. Please proceed with the registration if your organization has been accredited to Habitat II and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC),see list.

    It should be noted that the Governing council in its resolution 19/8

    1. Decides to reconfirm, on request, the accreditation to the Governing Council of local authorities and other Habitat Agenda partners that were accredited to the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) and to the special session of the General Assembly for an overall review and appraisal of the implementation of the Habitat Agenda;

    2. Decides further that accreditation of other local authorities referred to in rule 64 of the rules of procedure shall be approved by the Governing Council on the recommendation of the Executive Director in consultation with the Bureau of the Governing Council;

    3. Decides also that accreditation shall be automatically granted, on request, to non-governmental organizations, including other Habitat Agenda partners, which are in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council;

    4. Decides further that other Habitat Agenda partners referred to in rule 65 of the rules of procedure that were not accredited according to operative paragraphs 1 and 3 above may be invited by the Executive Director and accredited on an ad hoc basis to a session of the Governing Council: the Executive Director shall submit the list of such partners to the Committee of Permanent Representatives for approval on a 44 A/58/8 no-objection basis by final decision of the Committee, and to Governments not represented on the Committee of Permanent Representatives for their consideration, 10 weeks in advance of the Governing Council session;

    Organizations not reflected on the list but seeking ad-hoc accreditation to the 26th Session of UN-Habitat Governing Council, Nairobi Kenya, 8-12 May 2017 are required to submit the following details to confirm that the organization is a legal entity with established governance structure, and operational areas relevant to sustainable urbanization and human settlements development.

  • Each organization is required to submit Documented confirmation of the purpose, objectives and activities of the organization at the national, regional or international level, especially in areas relevant to housing, urban and human settlement developments, with detailed information in the country (s) in which they are carried out.
  • A copy of the constitution and/or by-laws of the organization and a copy of the registration / incorporation of the entity as applicable.

  • A description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members, the names of organizations that are members and their geographical distribution.

    Furthermore, the UN-Habitat Governing Council Rules of Procedure adopted by the General Assembly in resolution A/RES/58/227 and contained in Resolution 19/1 and an annex to A/58/8 Report of the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme Nineteenth Session 5-9 May 2003 provides information on different types of accreditation to the Governing Council in rules 62-66.
