CPD 53 will convene under the theme, ‘Population, food security, nutrition and sustainable development.’ The Commission assists United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) by: arranging for studies and advising the Council on various topics related to population and development; monitoring, reviewing and assessing the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development; and providing appropriate recommendations to the Council.
