CPI PROFILE Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah

The Future Saudi Cities Programme is a joint programme developed by the Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and UN-Habitat, implemented in close cooperation with the municipalities of 17 major Saudi cities, the cities have been selected based on their different population sizes, geographic

distribution, and a range of criteria based on capacities and economic potential to create a more balanced regional development among the cities of Saudi Arabia. The chosen cities include Riyadh, Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, Madinah, Tabuk,Dammam, Qatif, Al-Ahsa, Abha, Najran, Jazan, Hael, Arar, AlBaha, Buraidah, and Skaka. one of FSCP outcomes is the CPI profiles.

Under the FSCP, UN-HABITAT, MOMRA, Madina Municipality and its Local Urban Observatory has been working on developing urban statistic and spatial information (Geographic Information System) to provide relevant urban information that strongly supports decision-making process on urban development and urban planning in the city of Madina. This CPI Profile Report is a brief overview of the basic information and data about the City; it provides an overview of the city’s profile regarding the factors that contribute to its prosperity including productivity, infrastructure development, equity and social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and urban governance and legislation.

Each of the dimensions is comprised of several indicators measured differently. Since the indicators are measured in different units, the first step in the index computation involves the normalization of the indicators into values ranging between 0 and 1 ; the normalized values are then aggregated stepwise to create the single value called the City Prosperity Index.
