UN-Habitat Beijing Information Office was established in 1991 with an aim to promote the exchange and dissemination of information on human settlements development in China. It works in line with the Framework of Cooperation between UN-Habitat and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MoHURD) of the People’s Republic of China. The Office has close links with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China and liaises with municipalities and other Habitat Agenda partners working in the areas of human settlements and urban development.
Activities
Scope of activities of the Beijing Information Office:
- Facilitate UN-Habitat’s cooperation with Habitat Agenda partners in China;
- Maintain and update UN-Habitat Chinese website;
- Produce and disseminate Human Settlements magazine;
- Produce and disseminate Chinese translations of important UN-Habitat documents;
- Disseminate UN-Habitat publications to libraries and partners within China;
- Provide guidelines and necessary information to local governments and institutions on the submission of UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award and Dubai International Award;
- Provide inputs to UN-Habitat’s information database on China in various dimensions of urban development;
- Promote key UN-Habitat International and Regional events to partners in China, such as the World Urban Forum and World Habitat Day global observance, to mobilize support and participation from Chinese partners.

- The Regional High-Level Meeting in Preparation for Istanbul+5 for Asia and the Pacific in Hangzhou on October 20-22, 2000
- The International City Construction and the Environment for the 21st Century Conference in Chengdu on October 16-18, 2000
