Turning Urban Development into News
The Urban Journalism Academy is a pioneer UN-Habitat initiative intended for international and national journalists, and media professionals who are interested or involved in urban development. The objective is to train participants about coverage of social, economic and economic issues facing cities in the 21st century. The aim is to strengthen journalists and media professionals' capacity to analyze the overall process of urbanization by sharing with them substantive knowledge about the main issues of planning and city management.
Urban journalists and urban communications professionals are not only relevant for reporting purposes, but also for their important substantive role in contributing defining a new urban paradigm. The Urban Journalism Academy gives room to Media for contributing in the process towards the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) to take place in 2016. Habitat III is convened to reinvigorate the global commitment to sustainable urbanization, to focus on the implementation of a “New Urban Agenda”.
