UN-Habitat has been working in cities in Japan as well as coordinating the Asia-Pacific regional projects and capacities from the Fukuoka office. UN-Habitat has concluded 2 projects in Japan and has 2 on-going projects (establishment/running costs of ROAP-Fukuoka Office), making a total of 4 projects so far in the country. There are also some Asia-Pacific regional projects run from ROAP-Fukuoka, thus affecting the value of UN-Habitat projects and activities in Japan.

“Water for life” Publicity Campaign    

This project is located in Fukuoka and Kyushu areas of Japan. Based on strong requests from local partners of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP)-Fukuoka under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2007, the project is to launch ‘Water for Life’ publicity campaign to promote the presence, visibility and activities of ROAP-Fukuoka, featuring water and sanitation.

Emergency workshop for the Municipalities of Disaster affected Areas in Tohoku, Japan    

This project is located in 3 prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima) in Japan. The goal of this project is to contribute to the achievement of fast yet sustainable and efficient reconstruction of Tohoku area at the same time ensuring people participation in the various stages of recovery following the March 2011 earthquake.
