Invitation open for 7th Shelter academy for local government leaders
Nairobi, 14 March 2017– Mayors, vice-mayors, decision makers and policy makers of cities and local governments are invited to apply for the 7th Shelter Academy organized by Arcadis and UN Habitat. This year’s Shelter Academy will take place from the 4th until the 8th of September 2016 in the Netherlands.
Making the announcement, UN-Habitat said that this is a high-level workshop addressed to local officials and senior-level policy and decision makers focusing on cities and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
“The Shelter Academy is a one-week program which provides the participants with the opportunity to get their hands-on the problems faced by cities subject to climate change and environmental impacts. Participants will also get the opportunity to meet with their peers, look at the variety of solutions and approaches put into practice in different contexts, and formulate action plans on cases selected by them,” the statement said.
The workshop will be enhanced by the participation of experts from Arcadis, UN-Habitat, Dutch municipalities and the IHS-Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. The Academy will promote learning and capacity building on the topic of cities and climate change and will foster a meaningful dialogue on how cities are responding to these challenges.
