By on 04/11/2019

The Cities and Climate Change Science Conference (co-sponsored by Cities Alliance, C-40, Future Earth, ICLEI, Local Governments for Sustainability, SDSN, UCLG, UN-Habitat, UNEnvironment and WCRP) took place in Edmonton, Canada in March 2018. It brought together practitioners, policy makers and scientists to develop a global research agenda for “advancing the science we need for the cities we want”. The Conference sought to inform about the state of knowledge today, and potential key areas for future research in the field of cities and climate change.  It was set to work towards the promotion and the implementation of a global research agenda on cities and climate change. With the Paris Agreement as a fundamental foundation, city-level and local actions were at the center of the considerations.

This publication presents the key findings from the Conference. As urban climate science is needed to provide a rigorous evidence-base for better informed urban policy-making, as well as adaptation and mitigation strategies, along with the Conference, these proceedings seek to contribute to a positive and integrated engagement between the scientific community, urban practitioners and policy-makers.
