BACKGROUND
Human activities in cities are a major source of GHG emissions, and the concentration of population and infrastructure in cities make cities a prime location for reducing emissions and adapting to climate change.
Together with the NDC Partnership, UN-Habitat and GIZ have, in close contact, developed guidance on enhancing NDCs through urban climate action. The resulting Guide1 and Discussion Paper2 provide resources for governments to improve low-carbon and resilient national and urban development.

OBJECTIVE OF SESSION
The main objective of this event is to discuss how NDC can be used by national and local government to drive sustainable urbanization in the post-Covid recovery. Integrating and coordinating national and local climate action will enable scaling up and accelerating action on climate change.

FORMAT OF SESSION
The Webinar will feature a flexible format for open candid discussions around core issues and potential solutions:
The Session is opened by the moderator, thereby introducing all panellists, and outlining the topic.

  1. Roundtable Discussion: Urban Thinkers will have ample time to present key thoughts and discuss solutions for integrating urban issues in NDC formulation and implementation processes, as well as closer coordination with the urban development community.
  2. Questions and Answers: The moderator actively engages the online audience to offer participants a chance to further explode key topics and questions.
  3. Conclusion & Report: The moderator summarizes the discussion and concludes the session with key messages, on which a final public report will be based.

NDC Partnership members: GIZ, UN-Habitat, National and Local Governments.
