City Prosperity Initiative featured at Cannes Palais des Festivals, France
Cannes, 16 March 2017 – The success the City Prosperity Initiative (CPI) is reaching new heights with its presentation at the MIPIM, the world’s most prestigious real estate event hosting 25,000 participants this week at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. This concretises the engagement of a new type of partner in the initiative and a key stakeholder engaged in delivering cities. A new collaboration between UN-Habitat and FIABCI, the International Real Estate Federation, is emerging in order to promote innovative approaches to city monitoring and urban policy-making through the implementation of the CPI.
In view of the increasing development opportunities in cities, the real estate industry is in great need of adequate tools to position themselves at the nexus of sustainable urban living. The CPI has been envisioned as an instrument to help all urban stakeholders to guide their decisions, to measure the impact of projects and to better motivate sustainable building and living choices for consumers.
At the conference, UN-Habitat and FIABCI signed an agreement to formalize their joint commitments to the City Prosperity Initiative. This will provide the basis for the development of evidence-based information for the adoption of innovative solutions in the definition of Action Plans and Policy formulation. The CPI is an opportunity for build systematic data systems and information on the level of prosperity of the city, promoting participation in the urban management practice, valuing the fundamental role of all stakeholders in the decision-making process.
FIABCI is also a partner of UN-Habitat’s World Urban Campaign and will organize a major global gathering in Dubai under the banner of Urban Thinkers Campuses, organized by the Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI) on 2-4 October 2017 during the World Habitat Day celebrations. This will be another major opportunity to engage the real estate industry players and their partners in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
