Greener Cities Partnership to monitor urban environmental SDG indicators in Qazvin, Iran

Nairobi, 1 August 2016 – The City Prosperity Initiative – Metropolitan Cities (CPI-MC) and the Greener Cities Partnership (GCP) recently launched an International Pilot Programme in the City of Qazvin to monitor Sustainable Development Goals with an urban environment connection. The objective is to enable the municipality to create baseline data on the prosperity of the city related to urban SDGs indicators – and with the support of the GCP, monitor specific urban environmental indicators.

Geneva hosts City Prosperity Initiative meeting on municipal finance and urban economy

Geneva 13 July 2016-- A two-day conference “The City Prosperity Initiative for Metropolitan Cities: municipal finance and urban economy” was recently held at the UN Headquarters, Palais des Nations in Geneva. The event, which saw presentations by various international experts, was jointly organized by International City Leaders (ICL) and UN-Habitat, with the support of City Bank of Iran.

“The City Prosperity Initiative” presents UN-Habitat’s new global initiative that aims to reinforce local capacities for cities to improve well being and prosperity through a new monitoring tool (city prosperity index) a policy dialogue based on a conceptual framework (the wheel of prosperity) and the creation of action plans with sustainable urban solutions. The lecture presents both the origin of the city prosperity index and its evolution into a global initiative.
